The Point And Line Of Everything
THE POINT AND LINE OF EVERYTHING
After pondering over this question for longer than I can remember, it has occurred to me that it could never occur to a person who was built to survive here. We are limited by our very foundations which decide whether we are fit to survive in this society. It has been made very clear to us that we can live here comfortably if and only if we follow the life-map “gifted” to us by our society. It doesn’t matter which country or which continent we live in, it’s always the same thing.
All of it begins with our parents filling our bags with “who knows why studied them” books and weighing our shoulders with them. Then suddenly one day we are supposed to make a decision on what to do for the next 6-7 years of our academic life and for the rest of our boring life. I think it is a very wise decision to just drop it on the kid that they are to make a choice (maybe the biggest one of their life) after making their decisions for them for 15 years.
Though I am a sceptic, a story of youth has always captivated me. It goes like this-“When god created living beings he/she allotted each of the species 20 years to live but few of them wanted to live a few years less so that they wouldn’t be bored, so the human added those few extra years into his lifespan.” My point being that we were supposed to live those first few young years, experience them and cherish them, not resent them when we get nostalgic.
It has always been my strong belief that there is much more to life than education till 22, a well-paying job by 30 and marriage before your hair starts turning silvery. I guess “YJHD” has had a very strong influence on me because ‘the way it should work’ has always been a matter of interest when compared to ‘the way it actually works’. Even when life feels comfortable we don’t get the rush of excitement or that slice of life which is shown in the movies.
The inspiration to live an adventurous and exciting life however small it may be is way better than the hope to live a long and comfortable life. We may or may not leave a legacy when we leave, it doesn’t matter; what matters is the memories we create because when we die our memories are what flash in front of us and it would be better if most of them were happy ones. It lies in our hands whether to live a boring life or not because regret is the one thing I wouldn’t want to lie with me on my deathbed. I guess cherishing every freaking minute of this life is the best we can do before we make our final exit.
